The court stated that frozen embryos created and stored in IVF clinics can be considered children under state law. IVF is a medical procedure that involves “the harvesting of ovum from a woman and sperm from a man, both of which are prepared before fertilization of the egg(s) takes place in a lab.” This results in the creation of a human embryo, which is then implanted into the uterus to try to achieve pregnancy.

When IVF clinics said the ruling would force their closure, the public backlash was swift and led many politicians, both Democrat and Republican, to denounce the ruling. In response, legislators in Alabama rushed to pass a law that protects IVF providers from civil and criminal liability. The legislation offers civil and criminal immunity to providers and patients for the destruction or damage to embryos, retroactively applying to past cases.

While recognizing the devastating realities of infertility, many pro-life organizations – including the ERLC – believe the new law is ill-considered, fails to protect unborn (also referred to as “preborn” by pro-life advocates) life, and is in opposition to the state’s constitution, which expressly protects the sanctity of life. Here are some of the thoughtful reasons pro-life Christians should also oppose this law and similar legislation.

Continue here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-68524112334000168482024-03-14T12:32:00.003-05:002024-03-14T12:32:17.578-05:00South Carolina Man Who Blocked Abortion Clinic Entrance Found Guilty of Violating FACE Act

Pro-life missionary Steve Lefemine

By Katherine Hamilton - Posted at Breitbart News:

Published March 12, 2024
A South Carolina man was found guilty on Monday of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act after blocking the entrance to an abortion clinic in November of 2022.

Steven Clark Lefemine, 68, is facing a maximum penalty of six months in federal prison, a fine of up to $10,000, and one year of supervision to follow the term of imprisonment, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). The claim was put forth as the results of a formal study, though the authors admit that “no reliable state-level data … are available,” and their numbers were “estimated.”

Unsurprisingly, media outlets quickly reported on the study as if it were evidence of a national emergency … a particular kind of national emergency. Without exception, every major news outlet framed this story as not about rampant sexual crime, but about abortion access. For example, CNN announced: “Tens of thousands of pregnancies have resulted from rape in states where abortion is not a legal option, researchers estimate.” Theirs is a disturbing angle to take on this story, if the numbers are accurate.

The authors of the study estimated that 12.4% of rapes result in pregnancy. If accurate, that means around 520,000 women were raped in just 14 states over a period of just 18 months. That is almost five times the number the FBI estimated for the entire nation during 2022, a number that appeared to be trending downward from 2021.

If accurate, shouldn’t the headline be that the United States, or at least the 14 states with abortion restrictions, are facing an unprecedented crisis of sexual violence? In other words, “abortion access” is nowhere near the major problem revealed by this report. But of course, it’s not.

Continue here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-50738100039116247452024-03-01T08:29:00.001-06:002024-03-01T08:29:05.400-06:00How Should We View Our Children?

By Brian Najapfour - Posted at Reformation21:

I cannot recall how many times I met people who honestly told me that they did not want to have children because children would just interfere with their lives. They viewed children as a burden, rather than a blessing. In fact, a certain woman frankly told me that she was too selfish to have a child. She did not want to have a child, because she knew it would mean an inconvenient life.

Do you know how many babies are aborted per day in the U. S.? The answer is heart breaking—approximately 3,700 babies per day. And 93 % of all abortions happen generally because of inconvenience. Listen to the following statistics:

1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).

In other words, if you were to ask 100 mothers who aborted their children, “Why did you abort your child?” A large number of them would probably say something like this: “Well, because that baby in my womb would just interfere with my education or career.” Or, “I don’t want to have an inconvenient life.”

What?! You aborted your unborn baby simply because you didn’t want to have an inconvenient life?! Of course, it can be inconvenient to have a baby. You will experience sleepless nights as you nurse your baby in the middle of the night or rock your sick baby to sleep. You will have additional expenses, messes to clean up; and, your days will not always go according to your schedule. Children can indeed “interfere” with some of our plans.

Continue here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-75237613754971522122024-02-27T12:29:00.001-06:002024-02-27T13:23:13.050-06:00Children Who Survived Abortion Tell Their Stories

By Jonathon Van Maren - Published at The European Conservative:

Published February 21, 2024

Abortion survivors speak into the appalling silence left by those murdered millions.
Twenty-six-year-old Charlie Rosseau was a teenager when her mother told her why she had been born with one arm and one leg. The happy, blond-haired girl from Quebec had never “felt disabled,” but her mother revealed that her missing limbs were the result of a botched abortion she’d had as a teen, but decided not to complete at the urging of a doctor. Her parents had kept this fact from her because they didn’t want the story to define her in the small Canadian town where she grew up. Charlie has refused to allow the violence she experienced in the womb to define her and has instead spent the last several years traveling the world. “I decided I will have a boyfriend, I will live, and people will love me,” she said.

Perhaps no issue divides Westerners like abortion; we cannot even agree on who the main characters in this great moral drama are. For abortion supporters, it is about female bodily autonomy, without which sexual liberation is impossible. For pro-lifers, it is about the fundamental right to life of children in the womb, without which a society rooted in coherent human rights is impossible. For one side, the child is incidental or, delusionally, non-existent. For the other, abortion is violence perpetrated against the youngest and weakest members of our society. The stories of abortion survivors are a powerful testament to the fact that abortion is not about a what, but about a who.

Charlie’s story is more common than many might think. Josiah Presley survived an attempted curettage abortion intended to dismember him in Korea in 1995. His mother discovered at five months that she was still pregnant, he escaped with a maimed arm, and was adopted by a family in Oklahoma. Brandi Lozier was aborted in 1993; when clinic staff was about to discard her body, she raised her arm, and the staff revived her. Courtney Young survived an abortion in 1996, was born at 27 weeks, and was adopted by a loving family. Young’s mother had been pregnant with twins—the abortion killed Courtney’s sibling. Claire Culwell discovered in 2009 that her health complications were due to an abortion that killed her twin. She was adopted by a loving family but told me that every time she looks in the mirror, she sees her twin’s face staring back at her.

Abortion is a procedure with a single purpose: to end the life of a child in the womb. Miraculously, survivors are everywhere. In 2008, a UK mother told the Daily Mail that she was delighted that her infant son had survived an abortion; Carrie Holland-Fischer, who testified in favor of the Texas Born-Alive Infant Protection Act in 2019, told me that she endured much bullying as a child due to a disfigured face from an attempted abortion; when Gianna Jessen survived a saline abortion in 1977 and was born at 30 weeks, the abortionist signed her birth certificate. Filipino Paralympian Ernie Gawilan, who competed at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics and was the first gold medalist for the Philippines in the Asian Para Games, survived an abortion in 1991. Even in the womb, he jokes, he was swimming—away from the abortionist.

Continue here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-82065951466691426612024-02-24T07:55:00.006-06:002024-02-24T14:27:10.146-06:00Trump Defends IVF, Calls For Alabama To Pass Protections

By Ray Fava - Posted at Evangelical Dark Web:
In recent years, there has been a major push in Evangelicalism to call out the practice of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) because of its industry practice of aborting more babies than are born. and this issue has become a major sticking point for the pro-life movement as the prominence of IVF and surrogacy rise with affluent homoerotic vanity and celebrity trends.

Simply put, one cannot be pro-life and support this industry at any level of the supply chain. Donating to sperm banks for a quick buck is not pro-life. Selling donor eggs, knowing that they will be used to create discarded embryos is not pro-life. Selling one’s womb to gestate someone else’s child in an abortion-laden industry is not pro-life. The commoditization of human embryos is intertwined with abortion, only that the customers treat their biological offspring as eggs to make an omelet, leaving a body count in their wake.

Read more here.

Critics argue the new ruling will likely signal the end of in vitro fertilization in Alabama and lamented the court's Biblical language in its ruling.

In a concurring opinion, Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Parker wrote: "When the People of Alabama adopted (the 'sanctity of life' provision of the state constitution), they did not use the term 'inviolability,' with its secular connotations, but rather they chose the term 'sanctity,' with all of its connotations. The Alabama Constitution's recognition that human life is an endowment from God emphasizes a foundational principle of English common law, which has been expressly incorporated as part of the law of Alabama."

In writing for the dissent, Justice Greg Cook offered: "No court — anywhere in the country — has reached the conclusion the main opinion reaches. And the main opinion's holding almost certainly ends the creation of frozen embryos through in vitro fertilization ("IVF") in Alabama."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
See also:
IVF embryos are protected children, Alabama court rules | Politics News (christianpost.com)
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-25099476886375590532024-02-19T07:52:00.003-06:002024-02-19T07:52:50.912-06:00Christians for Personhood: 'Personhood over 40 years ago'<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Anthony Pro-Life America, surveyed 36 women who had undergone the abortion pill reversal (APR) process. The study, published on Dec. 5 in Cureus, asked the women whether their decisions to pursue an abortion and then a reversal were “very difficult, somewhat difficult, neither easy nor difficult, somewhat easy, [or] very easy.”
In a medication abortion, women are given two drugs: mifepristone (also known as RU-486) and misoprostol. Mifepristone works by blocking the effects of the natural pregnancy hormone progesterone. Misoprostol induces contractions and a miscarriage.
Because mifepristone blocks progesterone, pregnant mothers seeking APR are given a high dose of progesterone to hold the baby in place.
All of the women who responded to the survey had contacted an APR hotline within 72 hours of taking mifepristone. One woman ultimately chose to have an abortion. However, 18 other women surveyed delivered their babies to term. Six of the pregnant women suffered a miscarriage despite attempting an abortion reversal, and the remaining 11 were still pregnant at the time of the study’s conclusion.
Read more here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-2308350877798371912024-01-21T10:58:00.006-06:002024-01-21T10:58:33.848-06:00Has The Pro-Life Movement Lost Its Way?
By Warren Cole Smith - Posted at MinistryWatch:
March for Life provides moment for reflection
Published January 19, 2024
Today is the annual March for Life in Washington. The event has me reflecting both on my own career in journalism and on the pro-life movement.
It is not an exaggeration to say that the life issue gave me my career in journalism. I was happy in my corporate career in 1993. I worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, the global accounting and consulting firm. I had a corner office on the 34rd floor of the Bank of America Corporate Center in Charlotte, N.C. I was a Christian, and pro-life, but I had a demanding job and small children. Anything resembling activism would have to wait.
Then I read a news article saying the state of North Carolina spent about $1.5 million per year to pay for the abortions of about 5,000 poor women. My tax dollars paid for these abortions. I was complicit. That article, for reasons I can’t fully explain, radicalized me.
So I started a small newsletter called “The Charlotte Christian News” in November of 1993, and that began my slow transition from the corporate world to the world of Christian journalism. Thirty years, ten books (some of which deal explicitly about the abortion issue), and a couple of jobs later, I am still covering the life issue.
And it seems to me that the pro-life movement has lost its way.
Continue here...
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-44534897604495918142024-01-15T13:12:00.006-06:002024-01-15T13:21:08.292-06:00The Value of Human Life
By Richard L. Pratt Jr. - Posted at Tabletalk Magazine:
Every human life is valuable because every human being is the royal image of God.
I once asked a group of Christians, “What are human beings?” Without hesitation, one man shouted, “Worthless sinners!” The entire group nodded in agreement.
I responded, “Of course, with the exception of Jesus, everyone is a sinner apart from God’s grace. Still, we have to ask ourselves, are people worthless to God? Should we feel that way about people?”
Often our first reaction is to disdain people because they are sinners. Yet, as far as we know, God’s first words about people were not, “Let us make man who will become a worthless sinner.” Rather, He said, “Let us make man in our image” (Gen. 1:26).
Most of us have heard this biblical theme before, but we seldom recognize how central it is in the Bible. From cover to cover, the Scriptures tell us about God, but they also tell us about the image of God. The Old Testament concentrates on God’s image in ancient Israel. The New Testament sums up the goal of the Christian life by calling us to “put on the new self, created after the likeness of God” (Eph. 4:24). The Apostle Paul even extolled Christ by calling him the “image of God” (2 Cor. 4:4; Col. 1:15). This theme is so pervasive in Scripture that it should be central in every Christian’s life.
Read more here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-40277340634379171722024-01-09T12:49:00.005-06:002024-01-09T12:49:37.015-06:00Supreme Court allows Idaho to enforce abortion law in first abortion ruling since Dobbs
By Samantha Kamman - Posted at The Christian Post:
Published January 8, 2023
Idaho's abortion law can go into effect while a legal battle continues, according to a recent order from the U.S. Supreme Court in a case that marks the first time that the court has weighed in on a state's criminal law on abortion since it overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.
The Supreme Court determined Friday that Idaho could enforce the Defense of Life Act, which outlaws most abortions except in specific circumstances. Under the law, a provider who conducts an abortion can face up to five years in prison and the suspension or revocation of his or her license.
Idaho enacted the law in 2020, and after the Supreme Court reversed Roe in 2022, restoring regulatory authority over abortion to the states, the law could go into effect.
The court agreed to hear arguments in April about the issue, putting on hold a lower court ruling based on an August 2022 lawsuit filed by the Biden administration that claimed the state's abortion ban interfered with a federal law requiring hospitals that receive Medicare funds to provide emergency care.
Read more here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-70914822166422698542024-01-03T10:01:00.006-06:002024-01-03T10:01:40.951-06:00City of Refuge
By Kit Swartz - Posted at Gentle Reformation:
Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Museum is a first-class presentation of the honorable service rendered by the people of the city of Oswego, New York. The enclosure was sad, though understandable, but the warm and generous reception by our forebears deserves unqualified praise. How wonderful it would be if we would live up to this example and be a city of refuge for those in similar circumstances today! In a time when we are reimagining our city, it would be good to include this ideal in our vision. Both the wisdom and the compassion of the original Safe Haven should inform our aspirations.
The biblical cities of refuge also inform our thinking. Priests in Israel were part of the judicial system. The Levites, who assisted them, were given six cities of refuge, three to the east of the Jordan River and three to the west for easy access. When someone was suspected of a crime and was pursued by a member of the victim’s family, they could flee to one of these cities for protection. This protection was conditional, however. The priests and Levites would examine the refugee’s case. If the refugee was judged innocent, he could stay and continue to enjoy protection. If he was judged guilty, he would be disciplined accordingly. We also should be careful to act justly in any refuge we offer, seeing to it that the innocent are protected and the guilty are prosecuted. This is critical for the protection of our city, including other refugees. It is not extreme, but reasonable, measured, wise and just.
As with the Bible as a whole, this picture of refuge points us to Jesus who said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Numerous states give TANF funds to pregnancy help organizations because they help to meet some or all the TANF program’s goals. The Biden Administration’s Proposed Rule Change, "Strengthening Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) as a Safety Net and Work Program," targets pregnancy centers and alternatives to abortion programs, threatening to strip them of funds allocated through the states.
Without citing any evidence that pregnancy centers are unlawfully using federal funds for non-TANF purposes, the Proposed Rule Change targets pregnancy centers, completely dismissing the work that pregnancy help organizations do in the other areas, arguing that because pregnancy centers help women after they have become pregnant, instead of having a sole focus on pregnancy prevention, that the centers should not be eligible for TANF funds.
The Proposed Rule Change appears to give HHS the power to determine which organizations can receive TANF funds at its sole discretion, retracting that authority from the states.
Continue here.
See also:
‘Not an isolated incident’: Dem AGs show a ‘trend of hostility’ toward pregnancy centers, pro-life advocates say (pregnancyhelpnews.com)
Pregnancy help groups not giving up after pro-abortion administration pulls funding (pregnancyhelpnews.com)
Capping off a year of aggressive action on abortion, White House announces ‘Fight for Reproductive Freedoms Tour’ (pregnancyhelpnews.com)
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-1620156485931483992023-12-06T14:06:00.002-06:002023-12-06T14:12:42.824-06:00Ultrasounds and Sonograms Save Babies’ Lives—A Call to Support Pregnancy Care Clinics
By Grant Van Leuven - Posted at Reformation 21:
Published December 5, 2023
My wife and I had determined we fully filled my quiver this January with the delivery of our daughter. So, I was quite surprised this June when she hinted that another little reward was likely awaiting us in her womb! I responded, “That’s impossible!”—not out of desperation, but confusion about how it could have happened during the identified month of conception.
Yet, indeed, next March we are expecting our eighth covenant child.[2] We learned through an early blood test that he will be our fifth son, and we are now praying for him by his name, Gaius Ezekiel Van Leuven.[3] Naturally, we ask of the Lord that our “Little Guy” makes it to full term healthy and strong. How frightful that such prayer cover proved important for him just to survive my wife’s first gynecology visit!
Right at the start, the lady doctor asked if we had planned the pregnancy. When my wife sheepishly admitted that through natural family planning we had tried for her not to become pregnant,[4] the doctor cavalierly responded, “Do you want to be? You don’t have to be. This is California.”
Thus, she lectured my wife while our then eight-month-old daughter, grinning her fresh cut choppers, giggled and bounced upon my knee—whom the doctor had already googled over upon entering the other end of the cramped patient’s room where we were tucked into a tight corner behind the door waiting with Mamma awaiting her checkup on the examination chair. My wife and I were flabbergasted; but she quickly reacted resolutely confirming that we would gladly receive our gift from God.
Read more here.
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-66092169193271661252023-12-04T11:17:00.002-06:002023-12-04T11:17:49.134-06:00Pro-life Christian nonprofits sue Washington state AG over private records investigation<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can be passed from moms to babies in utero. Last year, more than 3,700 babies tested positive for the disease, a 30% increase in a single year and a tenfold increase in the past 10 years.
According to the CDC, the situation is “dire.” To reverse the trends, the report proposed, “[a]ddressing missed opportunities for prevention, primarily timely testing and appropriate treatment of syphilis during pregnancy.” Likewise, a Houston-area doctor quoted in an NBC News article about the report said, “It is unbelievable how this could all be prevented if we just had patients get in for screening and treatment.”
During the AIDS crisis of the 80s and 90s, some acted as if the HIV virus could infect anyone at any moment, as if how it spread was a total mystery. This mentality is even more common today, especially among drug companies promoting medication to treat HIV. The recent biopic Bohemian Rhapsody takes a similar approach to the story of Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the rock band Queen. Mercury hid the fact that he had AIDS from all but his closest confidants until the days before his death, despite continuing to have multiple sexual partners and possibly playing an outsized role in the AIDS epidemic. The movie, however, depicts Mercury as a hero of self-expression and a victim of horrible illness. His promiscuity is never morally evaluated and barely mentioned.
Read more here.
Please also see:
Congenital Syphilis | NCBDDD | CDC
STD Facts - Congenital Syphilis (cdc.gov)
Angela Wittmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04025738299107632514noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169668934249180297.post-88826541180587730342023-11-16T09:19:00.006-06:002024-01-21T12:21:01.987-06:00The Sex Education & SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) Connection
By Linda Harvey - Posted at YouTube:
Explicit, X-rated lessons promoting reckless, hook-up relationships are being delivered to students as early as middle school through “comprehensive sex education (CSE).” To their horror, parents are discovering that some schools launch such programs and still maintain that these are abstinence-focused when the actual goal of CSE’s abortion-friendly lessons is to lead children into a comfortable view of risky sexual conduct and even gender confusion.
“It’s not a big deal. I can manage this as long as I have condoms or contraceptives for protection,” is the CSE takeaway for most students. “And besides, I’ve learned that it’s my right to know all this and make my own decisions.” At age 11 or 12....
Wait—where did that idea come from? The “sexual rights” of your pre-teen?
Social emotional learning—SEL—is where this idea is planted and takes root. And the symbiotic links between SEL and CSE and the rotten fruits that result are just beginning to be uncovered by enterprising researchers.
Six other states have done likewise in the last year, including California, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, and Vermont. Killing children in the womb at any point in pregnancy is now a protected action in these states. To accomplish this, abortion proponents had to convince the majority of voters that women have a “right” to dead children, and they had to erase the casualties of that “right” entirely.
Erasing the primary victim is easy in the abortion debate. These victims can’t march down streets carrying posters and chanting for their equal rights — because they’re dead. They were killed without the opportunity to even cry out.
Their bodies were then buried — not in proper graves, but hidden and disposed of in medical waste facilities, dumpsters, and the sewer system after being brutally suctioned, dismembered, or injected with lethal drugs.
