Abortion, Father's Day & Single Moms

By Michael Spielman - Posted at : Chances are, you've never thought about the fact that the federal legalization of abortion and the federal recognition of Father's Day occurred within nine months of each other—on the ill-fated watch of President Richard Nixon. I certainly hadn't marked the connection, until setting out to examine the relationship between abortion and single motherhood. I now see a sad irony in the proximity these two events share on our historic timeline. In 1970, two years before Father's Day was finally given formal recognition, less than 12% of American families with minor children were helmed by single mothers. Today, that number has risen to 26% . And since more than 40% of American babies are currently born to unwed mothers, the percentage of single-mother households is likely to keep going up. But why is that? Have you ever stopped to think about abortion's relationship to single motherhood? Economists Steven Levitt and

Local pastor tells Metro Council he will not obey a safety zone outside abortion clinic

By Sara Sidery - Posted at Pastor Joseph Spurgeon - Image Source: LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - It's the only abortion clinic left in the state, and protests there are getting more aggressive. On Wednesday, Metro Council heard discussions about a "safety zone" outside the EMW Clinic in downtown Louisville. Supporters are fighting for a 20-foot buffer zone, something the ACLU recommends that would be 8-feet wide and stretch from the clinic's front door to the street. Anti-abortion emotions boiled over at Metro Hall at the end of a Council Public Safety Committee meeting. "Respect the unborn children," shouted local pastor Joseph Spurgeon. "Respect our free speech. We will not obey buffer zone laws!" Read more here.

Abortion is What Planned Parenthood Does: No More Dishonest Rebranding

By Eric Metaxas, G. Shane Morris  - Posted at Christian Headlines : When I say “Colgate,” what comes to mind? Well, toothpaste, of course. Too bad no one in the 1980s explained that to Colgate when they launched a line of frozen dinners named “Colgate Kitchen Entrees.” Understandably, customers found the idea of eating food from a toothpaste company less than appetizing, and the whole experiment bit the dust. But there’s another brand today trying very hard to convince the public that it sells more than one product. Planned Parenthood has spent the last few years insisting that its clinics offer all kinds of services besides abortions. As the latest stunt in this ongoing campaign, they’ve partnered with “Avengers” director Joss Whedon to produce a high-budget ad titled “Unlocked.” In this three-minute propaganda piece, Whedon depicts a world without Planned Parenthood. It’s a dark and scary place where a mother dies of cancer because she can’t get screenings, where a couple bre

A Biblical Perspective on Abortion

Posted at CRTA - Center for Reformed Theology and Apologetics : Abortion is perhaps the most highly debated social issue of our time. With more than 27 million abortions that have occurred in the period from 1973 to 1991, almost everyone has an opinion on the issue. The abortion issue has been used as a symbol of independence in the feminist movement, and has been clouded by many other issues such as rape and incest. However, in order to obtain a Biblical view of abortion, one must rake away the muck which obscures the main questions about abortion, and concentrate on the issue's essence. The primary point of conflict in the entire abortion debate is the question of when life begins. If indeed life begins in the womb, then no one could disagree that the fetus (latin for `little one') is a human being, and is subject to the rights (God's laws concerning humanity) which befit a human being. First, the Bible establishes that God recognizes a person even before he or sh

It Takes a Village to Murder Children

By Rusty Thomas "You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice" (Exodus 23:2). Wikipedia states, "It takes a village to raise a child is a  proverb  which means that it takes an entire community to raise a child: A child has the best ability to become a healthy adult if the entire community takes an active role in contributing to the rearing of the child." Hillary Rodham Clinton thought this African proverb was a suitable model for American society and incorporated its collectivist worldview to write a book called "It Takes a Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us." True to her Marxist tendencies, this book outlined well her social engineering governmental policies. Claiming to be a Christian, her worldview framed by Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals did much to devastate the God-ordained family that the Lord established as a strong foundatio

Standing Between the Butcher and the Baby

By Scott T. Whiteman, Esq. - Originally posted at The American View : A Criticism on the “legality” of Abortion and the Rights of the States to Interpose Themselves Between their Citizens and Federal “Law” Abort Abortion The pro-life movement estimates that 4000 children each day are either poisoned or butchered while still in the womb. That is, in the thirty years since Roe v. Wade, over 43 million children have been murdered and have received no protection from their civil governments. In these thirty years, reports indicate that the mood of the culture has changed, with teens being more likely than just ten years ago to oppose abortion; however, abortion is still considered a legally protected right. Except for possibly the population control advocates, abortion advocates are not as ideologically concerned with murdering children as much as they are about preserving abortion as a right. Certainly, I recognize that abortion providers have a fiscal interest in increasing the nu

Planned Parenthood’s Annual Report: 328,348 Abortions Performed by Organization in 2015

By Heather Clark - Posted at Christian News Network : WASHINGTON — Following a several month delay, Planned Parenthood has released its annual report, which reveals that the number of abortions performed by the organization are the highest since 2011 while the number of women using Planned Parenthood’s services in general continues to be the lowest in a decade. The abortion and contraception giant releases the report each year to tout its achievements, which include services largely centering around sexual activity. “Planned Parenthood has spent a century expanding and protecting access to sexual and reproductive health care and information so all people feel empowered to build the future they want,” the organization wrote in the introduction to its new report. “[W]e have much to be proud of in our first 100 years.” While the organization noted that abortion rates in the U.S. are the lowest since the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade, its annual tally also showed that Planned Parentho

Daniel Payne: 'Watching My Wife Give Birth Illuminated What A Miracle Life Is'

Posted at The Federalist : "I had been by my wife’s side for 12 hours as she moaned, breathed, and eventually pushed, and still I was not prepared for what seemed for all appearances to be magic." Some decades ago, my father, reflecting on my recent birth, wrote in my baby book that I was, as are all babies, “a miracle clothed in flesh.” Dismiss this sentiment as you see fit: the sweet but mawkish gushing of a father with a newborn; the overprotective emotional preening of an insufferable millennial brat; a run-of-the-mill baby book sentiment. It could be one of these things, it could be all of them—but it also happens to be right. My father was correct: babies are miracles. I know this because just recently I watched my wife push our new baby son out into the world. Our society has built a great deal of baloney around the awesome and staggering phenomenon of labor and birth, but the one common refrain that they all say is true is actually true: there is nothing li
