‘Assure the right to life’: Lewis urges Southern Baptists to support pro-life amendment in U.S. Constitution

Posted at The Pathway: JEFFERSON CITY – Longtime Missouri Southern Baptist statesman and pro-life advocate Larry Lewis is calling Southern Baptists to lead out in support of a pro-life amendment to the United States Constitution. Lewis was among many Southern Baptist pro-life advocates who rejoiced, June 24, when the high court overruled its 1973 Roe v. Wade opinion – as well as the 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey ruling that affirmed Roe — and returned abortion policy to the states. The Supreme Court’s opinion in Dobbs v. Mississippi Women’s Health Organization brought an end to an abortion rule established by Roe that cost the lives of more than an estimated 63 million preborn children. The Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe was a decision for which Lewis had long prayed. He was pastor of Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis when he wrote and defended from the platform as a member of the 1980 Resolutions Committee the first pro-life resolution approved by messengers to the SBC’

Why doctors are morally, professionally culpable in abortion

By C. Ben Mitchell - Posted at Baptist Press: JACKSON, Tenn. (BP) – Steve Hammond was a 28-year-old OB/GYN resident who started performing abortions to earn some extra money and because, it turned out, he was especially good at it. According to his own reckoning he performed more than 700 abortions. “I was convinced,” he recounts, “that abortion was just another procedure and that I was helping my patients in the process. I was convinced that if my patient and I decided that the best thing for her was to end her pregnancy, then the government should not interfere.” Since the law allowed it, his patients wanted it, and he was good at it, why not? Until – as he tells the story in the third person: “The baby kicked him! The doctor had a 1-year-old boy at home, and he knew what a baby’s kick felt like. Every time he changed his own little boy’s diaper, he experienced the powerful thrust, and this was exactly the same. It didn’t stop. He put his hand on [the woman’s] abdomen for the first

Yes, pro-lifers are on their own in caring for women and children, and that’s despicable

By Peter Heck - Posted at Not the Bee : The tenor of the entire article bothered me. Maybe I'm oversensitive to it right now, but there was something untoward about the whole thing. As the legislature of my home state of Indiana is currently taking up legislation to ban the act of killing unborn children in the womb, one of the state's larger newspapers ran a story warning how "abortion restrictions may put stress on the foster care system." It's not the logistical accuracy of the piece that frustrated me. Of course it's true that if killing "unwanted" children becomes illegal, more will be born, and it's a mathematical certitude that will result in more children being placed in an already strained foster care system. What bothered me is that the article, like so many being written by pro-abortion activists in media these days, carried with it a sort of, "Well now look what you've done" tone. The shamelessness that so many are able

“Disturbing” increase in attacks on pregnancy help centers from June to July; survey

By Lisa Bourne - Posted at Pregnancy Help News: A disturbing upsurge in attacks on pregnancy help centers in the U.S. has occurred over the last month or so, according to Heartbeat International, bearing out the abortion movement’s true character. A July 5 survey of Heartbeat’s affiliated pregnancy help organizations found in 200+ responses an alarming 12.4% had reported property damage, 35.8% had seen fake online reviews, 18.2% had received angry calls, 5.1% had experienced protests outside their locations, and 12.4% had received threats. The attacks stem from angry pro-abortion reaction to the ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, overturning Roe v. Wade. Read more...

Attorneys general warn Google not to limit search results for pro-life centers

By Sarah Rankin - Posted at Baptist Press: RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – A month after some members of Congress urged Google to limit the appearance of pro-life pregnancy clinics in certain abortion-related search results, 17 Republican attorneys general are warning the company that doing so could invite investigations and possible legal action. “Suppressing pro-life and pro-mother voices at the urging of government officials would violate the most fundamental tenet of the American marketplace of ideas,” the attorneys general wrote in a letter Thursday (July 21) to Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and its parent company. The effort was led by Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, and the letter was shared with The Associated Press ahead of its public release. The attorneys general took issue with a June 17 letter to the company from U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., and Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., which was co-signed by 19 other members of Congress. T

Pro-life legislators introduce the Unborn Child Support Act

By Nancy Flanders - Posted at LiveAction : Last week, pro-life federal legislators introduced a bill aimed at helping women and families. According to Fox News , the Unborn Child Support Act is an attempt to create a safety net for women following the fall of Roe v. Wade, and allow them to choose life with confidence. Pro-life Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. Kevin Cramer of (R-N.D.) and Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) introduced the bill, which would allow pregnant women to collect child support payments for the child they are carrying. Co-sponsors of the bill include Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), James Lankford (R-Okl.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), and Steve Daines (R-Mont.). “I hope good legislation, like the Unborn Child Support Act, gets more support now that the Dobbs decision encourages us to look more seriously at supporting mothers and their unborn children,” Hyde-Smith said. The new reality of abortion in post-Roe America - Separating abortion fact from fiction

By Christa Brown - Posted at Pregnancy Help News : Published July 12, 2022 Just weeks after the reversal of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court, ending 50 years of federally approved abortions , it’s already important to separate abortion fact from abortion fiction. Many unfounded predictions and scenarios came from our president this last Friday with the unveiling of his abortion executive order that have also been repeated by others in Big Media . Mainstream media outlets have an endless supply of fear and confusion yet offer little support or hope for those in difficult pregnancy circumstances. But how much of this shared by so-called legal and medical “experts” is actually happening in America since the reversal of Roe ? Read more...

Crisis Pregnancy Centers Helped Save 800,000 Unborn Lives in 5-Year Span: Study

By Michael Foust - Posted at Christian Headlines: Crisis pregnancy centers saved 800,000 unborn lives during a five-year span from 2016-2020 and provided hundreds of millions of dollars in free services to pregnant women, according to a new study that is being widely cited by pro-lifers in light of attacks on the centers by U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren. The study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that crisis pregnancy centers – sometimes called pregnancy resource centers or pregnancy help centers – saved an estimated 828,131 unborn lives between 2016 and 2020 and have saved “millions of lives” since the first centers were launched more than 50 years ago. The 828,131 figure “reflects the tremendous and awe-inspiring collective work of life-affirming pregnancy help centers, both medical and non-medical, to empower women and couples to choose life for their children,” the study said. The Illiberal Left and Abortion

By Denny Burk Published July 13, 2022 Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the consequences of the Supreme Court’s abortion decision in Dobbs v. Jackson. The Democratic majority called three pro-abortion witnesses, and the Republican minority called two pro-life witnesses. I watched most of the hearing and listened to sworn testimony from all five witnesses. You would be hard-pressed to find a more stark expression of the division in our nation than what is on display in this testimony. Three witnesses lamented the overturning of Roe and argued in favor of new federal legislation to ensure abortion rights through all nine months of a woman’s pregnancy. They also argued that restricting abortion rights in any way is an expression of racism and misogyny. An abortionist from Planned Parenthood testified that she is angry and made the incredible claim that the Court’s overturning Roe is “a stain on our history as a country” and that “Abortion is normal. Abortion i

What a Wonder Is a Human Being!

Posted at Challies.com: I gently lift the baby from his cradle and hold him gingerly in my arms. He wiggles, he kicks, he grunts, and then, settling for just a moment, he seems to gaze at me inquisitively. I look at his little hands as they grasp my thumb and I wonder: What blessings will come to others through these hands? Will they one day hold a scalpel to heal the sick or one day hold a Bible to preach the truth? What shoulders will they rest on, what eyes will they dry? How will these hands be part of God’s purpose for his world, his purpose for his people? I look at his little feet, bare and flailing in the air and before I tuck the blanket back around them I wonder: On what missions of mercy will these feet take him? Where will he go? Whom will he serve? What will God call him to? How will these feet be used by God to fulfill his purpose and carry out his plan? Read more...

California Doctor to Launch 'Abortion Boat' in Gulf of Mexico to Bypass Southern Bans

By Michael Foust - Posted at Christian Headlines: A California-based pro-choice organization says it will sponsor a floating abortion clinic in the waters off the coast of southern states in order to skirt bans on the procedure. The organization, known as “PRROWESS,” will operate on a boat in the Gulf of Mexico and will serve patients primarily from Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and other states along the southern coast, the organization’s website says . The boat will be located in federal waters. Meg Autry, an OB-GYN in San Francisco, told NBC Bay Area she hopes to raise $20 million for the clinic. Read more...

'More than 800,000 human beings saved by pregnancy resource centers in five years'

By Carole Novielli - Posted at Live Action: Despite false claims that pro-life pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) are ‘fake clinics,’ PRCs have saved over 800,000 lives from the violence of abortion in just the past five recorded years (2016-2020). This information comes from a report entitled, “ Saved Impact at U.S. Pregnancy Help Centers, ” published by the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI). “Approximately 3,000 [pregnancy help centers] PHCs form the foundation for a network of pregnancy help including adoption agencies, maternity housing, Alternatives to Abortion state funding programs, newer state-level initiatives like Her PLAN (Pregnancy and Life Assistance Network) and more,” CLI stated in its release. Abortion-vulnerable and abortion-minded women According to CLI, the “Lives Saved measurement is specifically defined as the total number of pregnant women assessed as being at-risk for abortion who choose to carry and give birth to their child (or children, in the case of twins

Supreme Court Acknowledges Abortion's Eugenics Roots: Roe Had a 'Demographic Effect'

By Michael Foust - Posted at Christian Headlines : The same Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade also acknowledged the history of the eugenics movement that used abortion to target minority communities. Justice Samuel Alito’s majority decision made the acknowledgment in a section that discussed the impetus behind laws prohibiting abortion during the 19th and 20th centuries. “There is ample evidence,” he wrote, “that the passage of these laws was … spurred by a sincere belief that abortion kills a human being.” In a footnote, Alito then cited a friend-of-the-court brief that he said referenced the eugenics-driven motives of “proponents of liberal access to abortion” during the 20th century. Baptist Press: 'Nashville pregnancy clinic vandalized; Kentucky AG fights abortion injunction'

NASHVILLE (BP) — Hope Clinic for Women, a faith-based pregnancy care center in Midtown, was vandalized earlier this week as vandals spray painted walls and broke a window with a faulty molotov cocktail. According to a press release from the Metro Nashville Police Department, on Thursday (June 30) morning, “officers responded to a burglar alarm at the facility at 1:38 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that a front window had been smashed and an unignited Molotov cocktail-type device was inside. Spray painted on the side of the building were the words ‘Janes Revenge.’ The unignited device is being sent to a crime laboratory for analysis.” The attack is similar to other reported incidents since the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on June 24. A June 25 post on the Jane’s Revenge website said, “Everyone with the urge to paint, to burn, to cut, to jam: now is the time. Go forth and manifest the things you wish to see. Stay safe, and practice your cursive.” Read more... Sour

UK: 'MP's demand abortion be made a human right'

Posted at The Christian Institute: Pro-abortion MPs are demanding that abortion be made a human right in the UK, following the US Supreme Court overturning of Roe v Wade. The pressure came during an urgent question time in the House of Commons called by Dame Diana Johnson. She asked whether the Foreign Secretary would put pressure on the Biden administration to ensure abortion is protected in the US. Christian MPs spoke up in defence of the unborn but many others reacted angrily to the Supreme Court ruling, calling the decision to hand back power to elected state representatives “an abomination”, and “a threat to women everywhere”.
