Language matters; pro-life medical group releases medical glossary

AAPLOG – American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians & Gynecologists – Prolife OBGYNs By Sam Entile - Posted at Pregnancy Help News: In an effort to promote “optimal healthcare for both pregnant woman and preborn children,” the American Association of Pro Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) has issued a “ Glossary of Medical Terms for Life-Affirming Medical Professionals .” "In this post-Dobbs environment, it is critical for life-affirming medical professionals to utilize language that is scientifically accurate,” said Dr. Donna Harrison, board-certified OBGYN and AAPLOG’s director of research. “In order for women to have true informed consent it is essential that they be given accurate information about the humanity of the preborn, the intent of induced abortion, and the difference between induced abortion and medically indicated maternal-fetal separations.” “The pro-abortion American College of OB-GYNs (ACOG) obscures these facts in their own recently-publishe

Breakpoint: Organ Donation and “Presumed Consent”

By John Stonestreet and Kasey Leander In a spiraling culture of death, Canadian jurisdictions disregard bodily autonomy by opting in residents by default. Following the lead of the province of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick became the second jurisdiction in Canada to adopt a policy of “presumed consent” for organ and tissue donation. Instead of willingly opting in to be an organ donor, residents 19 years and older, with limited exceptions, will be opted in by default. While many see this as a solution to the perpetual demand for transplant organs, laws like these treat the ethics of organ donation as a settled matter while treating humans and their bodies as means to other ends. Even more, considering Canada’s policy of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), this step will corrode the already thin ideas of “autonomy” and “consent” while incentivizing a utilitarian view of human nature. For context, Canada has already experienced a dramatic expansion of MAID toward not only those facing

Planned Parenthood’s New Revenue Stream Is Not a New Direction

By John Stonestreet and Shane Morris - Posted at Breakpoint : The Planned Parenthood organization has been built, from its founding, on destruction of lives, especially preborn ones. Now, even as legalities and access shift in the wake of the Dobbs decision, America’s largest provider and promoter of abortion has added another revenue stream. This one also promises to destroy lives, albeit in a new and subtler way. This one also promises to help women but is, in actuality, built on ideas that deny the existence of women. A new documentary from the Center for Bioethics and Culture tells the stories of three young women who believed they were not women and that they could become young men, only to regret it. The Detransition Diaries: Saving Our Sisters chronicles the experiences of Cat Cattinson, Helena Kerschner, and Grace Lidinsky-Smith, two of whom received hormone therapy at Planned Parenthood clinics. Though activists and media outlets pretend they do not exist, these are just thr

The Christian Institute: Archie Battersbee

Published August 12, 2022  The Christian Institute has not been involved in the tragic case of Archie Battersbee. We can only reflect on what is in the court judgments, media coverage and other comment in the public domain. Archie was found unconscious and not breathing by his mother on 7 April 2022. He was rushed to hospital, where he received further medical attention, but never regained consciousness. After a legal battle, in which Archie’s family were supported by the Christian Legal Centre, his life support was removed on 6 August. First and foremost, we extend our sympathy to Archie’s family. They have been through a harrowing ordeal, and we pray that they will know God to be the Father of compassion and God of all comfort. The case was highly complex. There were numerous court hearings over several months, and reams of medical evidence. One thing was clear: trust between the family and key medical staff sadly broke down. Brain stem death The first phase of court proceedings was

Why doctors are morally, professionally culpable in abortion

By C. Ben Mitchell - Posted at Baptist Press: JACKSON, Tenn. (BP) – Steve Hammond was a 28-year-old OB/GYN resident who started performing abortions to earn some extra money and because, it turned out, he was especially good at it. According to his own reckoning he performed more than 700 abortions. “I was convinced,” he recounts, “that abortion was just another procedure and that I was helping my patients in the process. I was convinced that if my patient and I decided that the best thing for her was to end her pregnancy, then the government should not interfere.” Since the law allowed it, his patients wanted it, and he was good at it, why not? Until – as he tells the story in the third person: “The baby kicked him! The doctor had a 1-year-old boy at home, and he knew what a baby’s kick felt like. Every time he changed his own little boy’s diaper, he experienced the powerful thrust, and this was exactly the same. It didn’t stop. He put his hand on [the woman’s] abdomen for the first

Not just Nazis: The grisly history of research on abortion survivors

By Carole Novielli - Posted at Saynsumthn's Blog : A look back at some of the grisly experiments once conducted on human abortion survivors will most likely make your stomach turn. This history shows the depravity a society can spiral into when medical research is allowed to advance untethered to any sense of ethical morality. Today, as videos of Planned Parenthood staffers haggling over the price of aborted baby body parts come to mind, a look into the fetal research market dating back to the 1930s reveals again how those who experiment on the bodies of tiny victims will often justify their actions as good. U.S. Doctors Take Official Stance against Euthanasia

Getty Images By Samantha Gobba - Posted at Christian Headlines : Amid increasing attempts to legalize euthanasia at the state level, the nation’s second-largest network of physicians officially spoke out against it last week. The American College of Physicians (ACP) wrote in a position statement published last Sept. 19 in the Annals of Internal Medicine that the organization of 152,000 medical professionals stands against the legalization of physician-assisted suicide, “the practice of which raises ethical, clinical, and other concerns.” “Control over the manner and timing of a person’s death has not been and should not be a goal of medicine,” the group concluded. “However, though high-quality care, effective communication, compassionate support, and the right resources, physicians can help patients control many aspects of how they live out life’s last chapter.” The position paper came in response to increasing public interest in legalizing euthanasia to promote patient autonomy
